Incredibly Bearish Statistic of the Day

"Now, about 1 in 3 [grocery] shoppers buy exclusively items on sale, twice as many as 18 months ago, according to market research Information Resources Inc. As shoppers seek the best deals, retailers with low price reputations are posting strong same-store sales while other grocers are scrambling to find a new game plan."

That is incredibly bearish. Anyone following that behavior pattern is acutely conscious of their spending.
And why wouldn't they be? The job market and economic prospects for everyone except Goldman Sachs employees is terrible.

the market doesn't seem to be paying too much attention to this kind of thing
