Hot Summer

A correspondent writes in regarding the hot summer in North America,

There must be some place in the Northern Hemisphere where the the cold footprint offsets the hot footprint of the Great Plains and Southeast.

It is abnormally cold across the central and eastern Pacific Ocean.
Cold temperature records are being set in Alaska.

I like this product to put things in perspective:

It's the 2-m temperature anomaly (re: the 30 year average).

Europe looks pretty chilly right now, too.

*I take no responsibility or credit for the horror that is the map projection.

What's your takeaway from the map?

P.S. I should have realized - total weathergirl bait!
